About Beachcomber Park
On the edge of Lake Buchanan where Beachcomber RV Park sits was most likely the residence of “Big” land owners who were in the ranching business. The Stone Main House is old architecture with unique carpentry and masonry throughout. In the early 1930’s, when the Civilian Conservation Corps announced plans for building a dam to harness the Colorado River between Llano and Burnet Counties, a mostly quiet community blossomed with the construction of a new hydroelectric dam. The dam’s construction was started in 1931 and by the time it was finished in 1937, it had impounded 24,000 acres of what is now Lake Buchanan.
The Davenports stumbled upon Beachcomber in 1998 when it was for sale and jumped at the opportunity to try their hand at operating the RV park. Carlton Davenport and his wife purchased the park and improved it. It currently offers RV parking rentals, camping sites, boat ramp, rental cottages, fishing pier and many other amenities.
Fishing is very good on Lake Buchanan for many species – especially Striped Bass and Hybrid Bass. The Lake Buchanan Conservation Corp has been very active for many years now in massive stockings of striper and hybrids into the lake. Many area attractions are close by but water sports are one of the main attractions here at Beachcomber Park.
